The ePulse2 strapless heart rate monitor watch & calorie counter claims to provide all your vital information visible on the continual display, showing heart rate, calories burned, target heart rate zones as well as the elapsed exercise time.
The usual style for a heart rate monitor watch without chest strap is one that fits on the wrist like a watch and most of these have a solid band, however, the ePulse2 has an adjustable band that can be worn on the wrist or on the arm, depending on where you find it most comfortable.
Most people report it to be most accurate on the forearm, however, this could easily vary from person to person and should you purchase this device it would be well to trial it until you find the position that works best for you.
There have been issues in the past with the battery life; however, one customer reported that the newer models have improved battery life and it is worth noting that the company does give some specific tips for bringing back the battery if it has fully discharged.
It is important if you do any regular exercise that you consider monitoring your heart rate, so that you can ensure you get the most benefit from your exercising efforts.
One of the best features of the ePulse2 is the fact that it doesn’t require a chest strap, and most people find this point very convenient and less of an issue than the heart rate monitors which require a chest strap.
ePulse2 Strapless Heart Rate Monitor Watch Features include:
- Comfortable and convenient, fits onto your forearm without the need for a chest strap
- Continual display of your heart rate, calories burned, target heart rate zones, elapsed exercise time
- Sleek design with Clear display with buttons large enough to read and push

“I am part of a running group and I have always used one of those traditional chest strap monitors. Over the weekend one of the guys in the group had this new device on his arm. At first I thought it was just some sort of mp3 player but I asked him what it is and he told me it was this new heart rate monitor that didn’t require a chest strap. I asked him if it works and he told me…”
“Great product. My wife and I both like these accurate, consistent, comfortable, handsome/sporty looking ePulse2 forearm heart monitors. We are both very fit and don’t count calories–we just use the heart monitor function for running, bicycling and working out. They never lose lock on my pulse or forearm, even when I am running at full speed around corners on tight, hilly dirt trails and swinging my arms all over the place. Today mine displayed my pulse consistently for 8.5 hrs including a…”
The overall user rating for this model was good, but not outstanding. This was brought down due to a reasonable number of reported problems with the device.
One common issue was battery problems, with one explaining that the battery life is short; saying it only lasted between 2 to 3 hours. One customer found that the device would not charge at all from brand new, via the wall charger, although the ‘charging’ light came on when plugged into the computer.
This charging light indicated the device was actually charging, however, it never actually charged, and was never able to be turned on. So they had to return it.
Yet another person who really loved the fact that they did not need to wear a chest strap, found that after a couple of days it would also not charge, despite being left plugged in for 3 days, and all the while displaying that it was charging.
This same person returned the device without issues, only to continue to have problems charging the replacement, having to plug and unplug it several times to get it to charge. They also found issues with the accuracy of the heart rate measurements, with it fluctuating between significantly higher and lower readings than what was actually the correct heart rate.
Another customer found the actual heart rate monitoring function to be particularly erratic and unreliable, showing readings inconsistent with a simultaneous carotid pulse. There were numerous reports of inaccurate readings and yet still other conflicting reports where people liked the accuracy of the device.
This raised concerns regarding to the possibility of exceeding your heart rate target which could be a medical problem for some people.
While the ePulse2 Strapless Heart Rate Monitor Watch does have many good reviews, it is not my favorite. The design seems to be very popular, however, the problems that users have experienced would likely steer me in another direction. It is discounted currently which makes it very affordable and it is quite popular among customers. You can read the customer reviews for yourself and make up your own mind.
